Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Everton during the summer transfer window.
The Belgium international was strongly linked with a move away from Thomas Tuchel's side during the summer but ultimately remained in the French capital.
Meunier's future remains the subject of much speculation, though, with the right-back seeing his current contract at the Parc des Princes expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
The 28-year-old has claimed that he "could have signed with Everton", but the Merseyside outfit's lack of presence in European competition meant that he was not prepared to make the move.
"There was interest and there have been conversations, but it never came to a point where I had to decide: Do I sign or not? Always one of the parties did not agree," Meunier told Het Laatste Nieuws.
"I could have signed with Everton - a good club. I would have played a lot, that's for sure, and had a lot of fun too. But Everton doesn't play in European competition."
Meunier - recently been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal - has scored once and provided one assist in nine appearances for the French champions during the 2019-20 campaign.
