Valenciennes have grabbed a slender 1-0 victory over Evian TG in Ligue 1, thanks to a second-half strike from Majeed Waris.
Evian created the game's first chance when Kevin Berigaud saw his effort from the left side of the box palmed away from the top corner by Magno Macedo Novaes.
Berigaud should have put the hosts ahead midway through the half when he was picked out by Youssouf Sabaly's cross, but the striker could only send his header wide of the target.
Valenciennes took the lead after half time when Waris found himself with the ball in the centre of the box, and the striker made no mistake in finding the bottom corner with his right foot.
Nicolas Benezet might have stolen a point for Evian with just over 10 minutes to play, but he couldn't keep his effort on target when he was played in down the left side of the box.
