Fenerbahce say that Robin van Persie's "condition is good" after suggestions that the Dutchman could lose sight in one eye.

Fenerbahce have insisted that Robin van Persie's "condition is good" following suggestions that the Dutchman could lose sight in one eye after a heavy collision while representing his club on Sunday.

The 33-year-old scored the opening goal in Fenerbahce's 3-1 win over Akhisar, but was stretchered off in the 37th minute of the match after taking a blow to his eye in a collision with an opponent.

Rumours on social media suggested that the former Netherlands international could lose sight in his left eye, which was heavily bandaged as the striker left the field, but Fener have played down the seriousness of the incident.

"He received a blow to the eye and suffered a torn eyelid and bleeding. After the first intervention, we sent an ophthalmologist to the hospital to assess him. After the investigations we learned that nothing important happened. His condition is good," read a statement from the club.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United in the summer of 2015.
