Ten-man Feyenoord have held on for a point away to Groningen to move to within two points of leaders Ajax in Eredivisie table.
Groningen took the lead on 25 minutes through Michael de Leeuw before former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt struck for the visitors five minutes into the second half.
However, Feyenoord were forced to play the majority of the second half with a man fewer after Jan-Arie van der Heijden was shown a straight red two minutes after Kuyt's goal.
The draw moves Groningen up to fifth in the Dutch division, but Ajax's surprise defeat earlier in the day to FC Utrecht means that Feyenoord are now just two points behind the champions at the summit.
