Laurent Blanc has confirmed reports that he has stepped down from his role as coach of the French football team.
Speculation was rife earlier today that the 46-year-old had decided that he had taken Les Bleus as far as he could following their quarter-final exit from Euro 2012 last weekend.
As the rumours intensified, Blanc issued a statement which explained the reasons behind his departure.
"During our discussions on June 28, we were unable to find common ground on the management of the French team for the next two seasons," said the former Manchester United defender.
"Under these conditions and after reflecting on the matter, I could not but confirm to him, on this day Saturday June 30, my decision not to ask for my contract to be renewed by the FFF."
Blanc had been in charge since 2010.
