Fulham boss Kit Symons is happy that his team are underdogs for their FA Cup fourth-round clash against Sunderland and is optimistic of his side's chances.

Fulham boss Kit Symons has admitted that he is more than happy for them to be underdogs going into their FA Cup fourth-round clash against Sunderland.

The Cottagers have won their last three matches on the bounce, albeit needing penalties to secure their meeting against Gus Poyet's men in their victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last round.

With his side improving under his reign, Symons is optimistic that they can put in a good display against the Premier League outfit and reach the fifth round of the competition.

Symons told the club's official website: "It's almost like a bonus game really I think is the way to view it. It's a fantastic game for us and one I'm expecting the team to go and do well in.

"We'll show them the respect they deserve as a Premier League team – they're a good outfit, they've got some good players, but so have we, and I'm very confident of going up there and getting a result.

"I think away from home against a Premier League team we'll be considerable underdogs, but I'm quite happy with that to be honest."

Fulham last reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in the 2010-11 season.
