Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri has reportedly decided that he is open to a swap deal involving Tom Cairney and Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Ranieri has recently been brought in as a replacement for Slavisa Jokanovic, and it has resulted in a change in formation and Cairney becoming less of a regular in the side.
Cairney played a key role in helping Fulham to promotion to the Premier League last season, but according to The Sun, Ranieri is happy to swap the Scotland international for Shelvey.
The report claims that Ranieri is looking for a proven player who can feature in a deeper role, and Shelvey could fit the bill having only made eight starts for the Magpies this season.
Newcastle have previously held an interest in signing Cairney in an attempt to help their efforts in the final third, and a swap deal could potentially suit both clubs.
Cairney only signed a new five-year deal at Craven Cottage in the summer, while Shelvey has just over two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at St James' Park.
