Co-hosts Gabon have got their African Cup of Nations campaign off to a winning start against Niger this evening.
Gabon took the lead in the 30th minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who converted a deep cross from Stephane Nguema.
Their lead was doubled shortly before the break as Nguema turned goalscorer. Aubameyang's downward header was parried by Niger's goalkeeper Daouda, but Nguema was on hand to turn in the rebound from close range.
Former Glasgow Rangers striker Daniel Cousin went close to extending Gabon's lead after the break, but his chipped effort went wide of goal.
The next match in Group C takes place later this evening between Morocco and Tunisia.
