Hamburger SV general manager Oliver Kreuzer has admitted that the club are unable to finance a deal for summer transfer target Nikica Jelavic.
The Everton forward has been linked with a switch to the Bundesliga in recent weeks after finding goals difficult to come by at Goodison Park last season.
Hamburg had declared an interest in the Croatian striker, but have now admitted that a deal is impossible due to financial constraints.
Kruezer told Bild: "It is still a fact we first have to sell a couple of players before we can dig into buying any new.
"And as far as I am concerned we will be unable to finance a deal with Everton FC for him (Jelavic)."
The 27-year-old bagged a brace in a friendly against Blackburn Rovers last weekend to boost his claims for a starting spot under new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez.
