Hannover 96 dished out high-flying FC Augsburg's second consecutive Bundesliga defeat thanks to goals from Salif Sane and Joselu at the AWD-Arena this evening.
The away side, who shipped four goals in 13 minutes in a 4-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at the weekend, were almost behind inside the first two minutes when Miiko Albornoz found the in-form Joselu with a smart pass, but the Spanish striker was flagged offside as he lined up his shot.
Alexander Esswein then collected Halil Altintop's pass and sent a powerful left-footed shot crashing towards goal that was well-saved by Ron-Robert Zieler in the Hannover goal.
The home side took the lead through Sane in his first appearance of the season on 20 minutes when the defender rose highest to head home Lars Stindl's flick-on following a Hannover corner.
Joselu grabbed his fourth goal in four games from the penalty spot 10 minutes into the second half after Daniel Baier felled Stindl in the Augsburg box.
Raul Bobadilla's long-range strike just after the hour mark came within inches of getting Augsburg back into the game, before Bobadilla was denied by Zieler's smart save from the striker's left-footed effort from the edge of the box on 74 minutes.
Erik Thommy was next to be thwarted by Zieler as the Hannover goalkeeper kept out his goal-bound effort in the dying minutes to close out victory for his side.
