United States Under-20 goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann has signed a professional contract with Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin following a successful trial.
The 20-year-old, who is expected to play for Hertha's Under-23 team next season in the regional fourth division, is the son of former Germany international Jurgen Klinsmann.
The stopper had previously represented the California Golden Bears of Berkeley University, but has now earned a professional deal after impressing while on trial with Hertha.
"This morning, Michael Preetz (Hertha sporting director) asked me to have a chat with him after breakfast. He told me a decision had been taken regarding my contract with Hertha," Klinsmann told the German club's official website.
"It was an unbelievably emotional moment for me, because this club has so much history in my family. I'm looking forward to getting to know the club more, the city of Berlin and taking on new challenges in Germany."
It is understood that Klinsmann rejected an offer from Eintracht Braunschweig to sign on the dotted line at Hertha.
