Huddersfield Town have continued their preparations for the Premier League with back-to-back defeats to Real Betis and Werder Bremen at the Interwetten Cup.
The three teams - as well as Rot-Weiss Essen - were participating in the tournament, which involves two 45-minutes matches, but Premier League outfit Huddersfield suffered setbacks in both fixtures.
The Terriers faced La Liga side Betis in their semi-final encounter, and the opening 25 minutes passed by without incident before Terence Kongolo prevented Sergio Canales from finding the back of the net.
However, on the half-hour mark, Betis went in front through Loren who managed to lob his shot over Joel Coleman after being played in on goal by a long ball.
Canales doubled Betis's advantage three minutes later when the Spaniard was given too much space on the edge of the area before finding the back of the net from distance.
Abdelhamid Sabiri twice went close for Huddersfield, but the Yorkshire club had to make do with going into the third-place playoff with German side Bremen.
The only goal of the game came through Florian Kainz, who sent a free kick from the edge of the area past Coleman and into the corner.
