Paul Ince: 'Tom Ince can be as good as Gareth Bale'

Paul Ince hits out at Hull City over their treatment of his son Tom, whom he claims can have a similar impact on English football as Gareth Bale.

Former Liverpool and Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has backed his son Tom to have a Gareth Bale-type impact on English football in the coming years.

The 23-year-old is back at Hull City after dazzling for Derby County during a loan spell from Feburary until May, but Tigers boss Steve Bruce is yet to call on him since his return.

Bale endured a rough couple of years at Tottenham Hotspur before taking England's top flight by storm, and Ince senior says that his son's career can take a similar trajectory to the now-Real Madrid man.

"I'm disappointed in Hull as, in every game he's played, he's done well," he told The Times. "Instead of playing, he's sitting in my house at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon when his team are playing, which can't be right.

"I've not spoken to [Hull boss Steve Bruce] yet but will be speaking to him very soon. If you allow Thomas to express himself, you'll get rewards, as they've seen at Derby.

"He's still got a bit to do; he's a little bit weak and will be a late developer. I remember looking at Bale and he was a little bit skinny but, the next year, he bulked up and was outstanding. That's where Thomas is going to be next year."

Ince junior netted 11 times in 18 Championship appearances for the Rams.
