Hull City manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that he is interested in bringing Jermain Defoe to the club during the January transfer window.
Defoe currently plies his trade for MLS side Toronto FC but has been heavily linked with a move back to the Premier League this month, with Queens Park Rangers also understood to be interested.
The Tigers have now joined the race for the 32-year-old, although Bruce is unsure whether the club would be able to afford the striker's wages.
"If he becomes available, which I believe he is, then we'd love to do something. I think it might be too expensive but it's not a bad bit of speculation," Bruce is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"There's always speculation. You ask any club in the bottom of the division about Defoe, all of us would say yes. Whether we can do it financially is another problem."
Defoe scored 152 goals in 427 league appearances during his time in English football.
