Inter Milan are level on points with third-placed Napoli after a 2-1 win over Cesena on Sunday.
It was the home side who started the better and they might have led courtesy of Giampaolo Pazzini after four minutes, but he missed from close range.
Yugo Nagatomo was next to come close for Inter after 14 minutes, but again he missed the target.
Chances remained few and far between in the latter stages of the half, with a Maicon effort for Inter and a Vincenzo Iaquinta effort for Cesena after 30 minutes the best chances of the half.
It was Cesena who took the lead, against the run of play, after 57 minutes when Luca Ceccarelli struck from close range.
Inter were level moments later, however, when Steve Von Bergen could only find his own net after pressure from the Inter attack.
There was to be one last strike in the match, and it came after 72 minutes when Mauro Zarate pounced to score to hand Inter the lead.
It remained that way, despite a late chance for Cesena with Iaquinta always a danger.
