Internacional vice-president Lucian Davi has confirmed that the club are interested in signing Inter Milan forward Diego Forlan.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who moved to the San Siro in August 2011, made 18 Serie A appearances last season, scoring twice.
Brazilian defender Lucio, 34, had the final two years of his contract with the Nerazzurri mutually terminated last week and, following his low-scoring campaign, it has been suggested that Forlan may be offered a similar pay-off.
Davi says that if Forlan were to be released then the Porto Alegre side would consider making a move for his signature.
"If that information is true, we'll be interested," Davi told Brazilian newspaper Lancenet.
"Internacional will have to be creative to know how to handle this kind of situation. If Forlan becomes a free agent, we will have to work something out regarding his wages."
Forlan's previous clubs include Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Manchester United and Independiente.
