Inter Milan have announced the signing of French striker Marcus Thuram on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 25-year-old - who is the son of legendary France defender Lilian Thuram - links up with the Nerazzurri after running down his contract with the Bundesliga giants, who had already confirmed that he would be departing at the end of June.

Having shone for Monchengladbach with 16 goals and seven assists in 32 matches last season, Thuram was believed to have been on the radar of several top European clubs.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United were all linked with a move for the former Guingamp youngster, while Paris Saint-Germain were also believed to be eyeing a swoop.

However, Thuram informed PSG that he would not be making the switch to the Parc des Princes, while the Premier League quartet also decided to prioritise alternative targets.

City rivals Inter and AC Milan apparently engaged in a two-horse race for Thuram's signature over the past week, but the Nerazzurri have won the race to welcome him to San Siro.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal with Inzaghi's side until the summer of 2028, and his contract is believed to be worth €6m (£5.2m) per season.

Thuram arrives in Milan two years after Inter reportedly pushed hard to sign him from Monchengladbach in 2021, but a knee injury curtailed his proposed switch to the Italian city.

Instead, the Nerazzurri opted to move for Joaquin Correa from Lazio, but Thuram has now swapped Monchengladbach for Milan after a successful four-year spell in the Bundesliga.

Monchengladbach paid just €9m (£7.7m) to sign the striker from Guingamp in 2019, and he departs having amassed 44 goals and 29 assists in 134 matches for Die Fohlen.

Thuram hit double figures in his debut season in the Bundesliga, where he was named the league's rookie of the month three times in a row between September 2019 and November 2019.

A 10-cap France international, Thuram set up two goals for his country at the 2022 World Cup - including one for Kylian Mbappe in the final - but he is still waiting for his first Bleus goal.

The forward reinforces the Inter attack following the departure of Edin Dzeko to Fenerbahce, while Romelu Lukaku's loan spell from Chelsea has now officially come to an end.

Lukaku is understood to be keen to continue in Nerazzurri colours, and a separate report from 90min claims that Chelsea and Inter are now close to reaching an agreement.

Lukaku would reportedly return to San Siro on loan with an obligation to purchase in 2024, as Inter do not have the financial means to commit to a permanent deal this summer. body check tags ::
