Christophe Berra scored the only goal of the game as Ipswich Town edged out Yeovil Town in their Championship clash at Huish Park this evening.
The home side pressed early to get the lead and were unfortunate not to do so when James Hayter brought the ball down in the area, but then saw his half-volley crash off the crossbar and bounce clear.
Yeovil continued to have the better of the opportunities when Luke Ayling fired a shot at goal from the edge of the box which took a deflection, and Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken had to do well to parry the ball away.
Mick McCarthy's side upped the ante late in the half and took the lead through Berra, as he tapped home from close range after Tommy Smith had headed Stephen Hunt's corner towards goal.
After the break, Ipswich tried to double their lead when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake beat the challenge of Ayling before firing a low effort at goal, but Marek Stech was there to make the save.
The home side had a chance to get their equaliser when the ball broke kindly for Kieffer Moore, but Gerken came out to narrow the angle to stop the effort before the striker could get a proper effort away.
Ipswich tried their utmost to kill the game off in the dying minutes, but Stech made two impressive stops to deny Cole Skuse and then Tyrone Mings.
Yeovil nearly snatched a point at the end of the game as Moore turned and shot from inside the area, but his effort clattered off the inside of the post and was cleared to safety, as the Tractor Boys held out for the win.
