Gervinho will miss the rest of the Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations group-stage campaign after being given a two-match suspension.
The Roma forward was sent off in the second half of his country's 1-1 draw with Guinea on Tuesday for striking Naby Keita in the face.
Further action has been taken against the former Arsenal striker because of his reaction to the red card, which saw him aggressively argue with the Algerian referee and punch the turf in protest.
He will be unavailable for the Ivory Coast's Group D fixtures against Cameroon and Mali.
Gervinho took to Twitter earlier today to apologise to his country, his teammates, fans and tournament organisers for the "angry gesture", admitting that his reaction had "no place on the football field".
