Heiko Westermann is on the brink of joining Juventus, according to reports.
The former German international is a free agent after leaving Hamburg in the summer and could be brought in before the Italian champions' Super Cup game against Lazio on Saturday.
According to German newspaper Die Welt, the two sides are close to an agreement over the 31-year-old, as Bianconeri boss Massimo Allegri looks to add depth at the back.
The reigning champions have Leonardo Bonucci as their only fit centre-back as they head into the new season, which gets underway on August 23.
Westermann has made 400 appearances in the Bundesliga and has represented the national side on 27 occasions, scoring four goals.
