Sports Mole

LDU Quito and Atletico Goianiense lock horns in a pivotal Copa Sudamericana clash at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado on Wednesday.

The teams head into the clash with their qualification destiny still in their own hands and will be looking to get the job done.

Match preview

LDU Quito had to settle for a share of the spoils in Thursday's clash versus Argentinian outfit Defensa y Justicia, which ended 2-2.

Luis Zubeldia's men took the lead through Jose Quinteros early on but two goals from Lucas Albertengo soon turned the match around before Nilson Angulo restored parity just past the midway point in the second half.

The Merengues were also held to a stalemate in their last league outing against Guayaquil City on Sunday at the Estadio Christian Benitez Betancourt.

Sitting second in Group A heading into Wednesday's contest, the home side must claim all three points to progress into the knockout phase of this season's Copa Sudamericana.

Having won five of their last six home matches, Quito will back themselves to come out on top in this one and close out their group-stage campaign on a high.

Atletico Goianiense narrowly saw off the threat of Antofagasta in a 1-0 triumph on Wednesday at the Estadio Serra Dourada.

Jorge Jorginho's first-half opener was enough to secure all three points for Jorge Amorim Campos's men in a hard-fought contest.

The Dragons currently lead the way in Group A and simply need to avoid defeat in their next outing to make it through to be next round of the Copa Sudamericana.

Wednesday's visitors, who got the better of Cortiba on Saturday to record their first win of the 2021-22 Brasileiro season, now set out to preserve their continental campaign.

Team News

Jorge Jorginho is one to keep an eye on as the Brazilian sets out to find the back of the net for the third game running.

Twenty-three-year-old Airton could be rewarded with a start here after coming off the bench to clinch Atletico's 2-0 win over the weekend.

Despite receiving his marching orders in the hosts' last league involvement, Jose Quinteros will be available to feature on Wednesday.

Midfielder Michael Hoyos is on an impressive streak in front of goal, scoring three times in his last four appearances.

LDU Quito possible starting lineup:
Falcon; Brucil, Romero, Calcedo, Quinteros; Angulo, Piovi, Ortiz, Alvarado; Hoyos, Molina

Atletico Goianiense possible starting lineup:
Ronaldo; Junio, Ramon, Wanderson, Hayner; Edson, Marlon; Shaylon, Jorginho, Luiz; Wellington

We say: LDU Quito 2-1 Atletico Goianiense

The onus is firmly on the home side to take control of proceedings, as anything less than all three points would spell the end of their continental journey. We are backing them to emerge victorious by a slender margin in what should be an absorbing contest.
