Steve Evans: 'Sam Byram fee to be used on new signings'

Leeds United boss Steve Evans insists that the money brought in from selling Sam Byram to West Ham will be reinvested in the squad.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has insisted that the money the club received from selling Sam Byram will be reinvested in bringing new players to Elland Road.

Academy product Byram was considered one of Leeds's most prized assets before he joined West Ham United for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £3.7m, earlier this week.

Evans has guaranteed that the fee will be used to improve the squad at his disposal, and revealed that the club have already made two offers for unspecified players.

"We've made a couple of offers in writing. We've had feedback on one of those [on Thursday] morning. When the president comes out of his meetings he'll be active on that. There's another one we're waiting to hear back from, but we're actively pursuing another couple," Evans told the club's official website.

"To supporters, it may look like 'Sam goes out and nothing comes in', but the reality is far from it. The Sam Byram money is available right now, but we have to bring in the right players. We've earmarked targets and, whether it be now or the summer, we will try and sign these players.

"Two or three of the names have never been mentioned in the press, which is positive, and shows that the conversations have remained between me and the president. There's no doubt we want to add players who can make a difference but I can't succumb to pressure from the outside."

Leeds have so far this month brought in Mustapha Carayol on loan from Middlesbrough in addition to extending Liam Bridcutt's loan spell at the club.
