Los Angeles Galaxy are reportedly set to announce the signing of former Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus.
The 35-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Bundesliga giants at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign, one which could have ended in continental glory.
Reus's final appearance for Dortmund was in the Champions League final against Real Madrid on June 1, when goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr secured Los Blancos' 15th European crown.
The attack-minded midfielder played a bit-part role for the Germans in the Bundesliga last term, scoring six times and providing six assists from 26 appearances.
After joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in July 2012, Reus made 429 appearances for Dortmund over a 12-year period, scoring 170 goals in that time.
For the first time in his career, the 48-time international will take his club football outside of Germany, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
The report claims that a deal between Reus and MLS side LA Galaxy is close to completion after an initial agreement was made at the beginning of July.
It is understood that the veteran will sign a deal in California that will keep him contracted to the American club until the conclusion of the 2025 MLS campaign in December of that year.
Reus is expected to fly to the United States within the next few days in order to carry out medical tests and put pen to paper on the high-profile transfer.
Newcastle edging closer to Trafford signing?
Moving onto the Premier League, Newcastle United have supposedly moved a step closer to the acquisition of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
The former Manchester City youngster burst onto the world stage after keeping a clean sheet in every match as England romped to glory in the Under-23 European Championships last summer.
Such stellar performances earned Trafford a permanent switch to Vincent Kompany's Clarets for the 2023-24 term, however things did not go according to plan at Turf Moor.
Burnley suffered an immediate relegation from the Premier League after finishing 19th, with Trafford losing his status as first-choice keeper to Arijanet Muric for the final 10 fixtures of the season.
Despite this, the ex-Bolton Wanderers loanee could be handed a top-flight lifeline, with The Sun claiming that Newcastle could be moving towards a deal for the player.
These interesting developments come into light after the second-tier Clarets announced the signing of Trafford's potential replacement, Etienne Green from Saint-Etienne.
With Vaclav Hladky also joining the Turf Moor club this summer, it appears as if Burnley are stocked in the goalkeeping department and ready for the sale of last season's top pick.
