New signing Luke Varney has admitted that he is grateful for a move to Leeds United after a tough time with troubled Portsmouth.
The 29-year-old joined Leeds after a turbulent 12 months at Fratton Park and is pleased that he finally has the chance to focus on a a season in the Championship.
Varney said: "To be honest I've stopped making long-term plans now because what has happened at Portsmouth shows how things can change so quickly in football these days.
"I'll just take it one game at a time and I will look to repay the faith that Leeds have shown in me on the pitch this season."
The experienced forward could make his league debut for Leeds in their Championship opener against Wolves on August 18.
