Leicester City boss Claude Puel has insisted that he was right to start Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy on the bench for the EFL Cup tie with Manchester City.
Puel opted to make alterations for the last-eight clash at the King Power Stadium, with Mahrez and Vardy making an appearance in the second half before missing the decisive kicks during a penalty shootout.
After the game, some supporters questioned why the star duo were not used from the first whistle, but Puel has said that he remains happy with his decisions over selection.
The 56-year-old told reporters: "I have no regrets. We need to protect the players.
"It's important we keep players without injuries, but we must try to win every game. It's not possible to play every player for every game"
Vardy has started in each of Leicester's Premier League fixtures this season, while Mahrez has featured in every starting lineup aside from the game at Bournemouth on September 30.
