Brendan Rodgers still optimistic of remaining as Leicester boss

Brendan Rodgers has backed his Leicester City side to eventually turn performances into results to move up the Premier League table.

Rodgers is under pressure to keep his job at the King Power Stadium with the Foxes having spent much of the campaign in the relegation zone.

While the East Midlands outfit were the better side against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, they were ultimately held to an uninspiring goalless draw.

With Leicester remaining in the bottom three as a result of the stalemate, Rodgers will come under further scrutiny ahead of the next double-header against Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nevertheless, the Northern Irishman spoke positively about his team's performance against the Eagles, praising several areas of their play as they kept just their second clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

Speaking to BT Sport, Rodgers said: "I thought the performance was good. We limited a very good Crystal Palace team, with a lot of individual players of real quality, to one chance.

"Apart from that we pressed the game well, in particular in the second half when the pressure on the ball was much better. We got into good areas but failed to make the final pass to get us that goal.

"At this moment we have got to see effort and fight of the players, which was there. The talent is there but we are [near] the bottom of the table, so confidence can be affected. It was a good performance, the desire to win the game was there, but it was a clean sheet against a good team."

At the end of the game, there were more murmurings of discontent from the home supporters, although Rodgers acknowledged that he had to accept any criticism which may be directed at himself of his team.

Rodgers added: "The modern game, if you are not winning, it opens you up to criticism and I accept that.

"The players are fighting and running and giving everything. I always felt after the summer market we would have to fight our way through the season but the players are doing that and hopefully we will get better results as the season goes on."

Despite the sour mood at the King Power Stadium, Leicester have now gone 247 minutes without conceding a goal at their home ground. body check tags ::
