Simon Grayson's Preston North End had to settle for a point after Chris Dagnall rescued a 2-2 draw for Leyton Orient in an entertaining encounter at Deepdale.
David Mooney put Orient ahead after just six minutes when he stole the ball from David Buchanan in the Preston half and drove forward before firing a 25-yard effort beyond on-loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Preston were level on 23 minutes when an unmarked Jermaine Beckford nodded home a Paul Gallagher free kick from six yards out.
Gallagher then won the ball in Leyton Orient territory, but after a mazy run could only drag his effort wide of goal.
Kyel Reid sent an effort narrowly over the top after gathering Beckford's knock-down seconds after the restart, before Dagnall saw his appeals for a penalty waved away.
Johnstone was then called into action on the hour mark when he had to react quickly to turn Mooney's powerful first-time half volley around the post.
Scott Laird tested Gary Woods with a fierce effort from range just three minutes later, before Preston retook the lead with a Gallagher penalty after Scott Cuthbert had felled Reid.
However, Orient refused to lie down and were level again when Dagnall fired home after a determined run took him through two Preston challenges and into the box.
The result lifts Preston up to third, while Orient climb to 19th.
