Lille have beaten Valenciennes away from home in Ligue 1 despite being reduced to 10 men just after their goal.
The visitors started brightly and Pape Souare met a Florent Balmont cross with a volley, but his effort was blocked behind for a corner.
Balmont then put the ball on to the head of Simon Kjaer from a corner but he put the effort over from close range.
Nolan Roux was played in from a free kick but put his effort narrowly wide of the top corner from a very tight angle.
Immediately after half time the away wide took the lead as Ronny Rodelin fired high into the roof of the net from inside the box.
Franck Beria was shown a second yellow card shortly after and although Valenciennes came forward more in the second half and came close through Marco Da Silva, the away side held on for the points.
