Sports Mole selects its strongest combined XI from the Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur squads ahead of Saturday's Champions League final in Madrid.

The second all-English Champions League final in history sees Tottenham Hotspur take on Liverpool at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday night.

Both sides pulled off memorable comebacks in their respective semi-finals, with Liverpool thrashing Barcelona to overturn a three-goal aggregate deficit and Spurs also recovering from three goals down against Ajax.

Just 90 minutes now separate one of the Premier League clubs from the biggest prize in European football, with Liverpool bidding for a sixth Champions League crown and Spurs looking for their first.

Here, Sports Mole selects a combined XI from the two squads, using only players who could be available this weekend.

Both clubs boast goalkeepers who can be counted among the best in the world, but there have been far more questions over Hugo Lloris this season than there have about Alisson Becker. The Brazilian's arrival enabled Liverpool to spark a sustained title challenge in the Premier League this season, earning him the Golden Gloves during his debut campaign in England.

Liverpool also dominate the defence, and their full-backs have been particularly impressive this season. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson's friendly assist competition drove them to contribute 23 between them, making them easy choices ahead of Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier for this XI.

Virgil van Dijk is another straightforward selection, with his form seeing him win the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. Alongside him in this team is Toby Alderweireld, who narrowly edges out the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

The importance of Fabinho grew throughout the second half of the season to the point that the Brazilian is now one of the first names on the teamsheet for Jurgen Klopp, and he is another simple choice ahead of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks, the latter of whom is doubtful for Saturday's game.

Christian Eriksen does make the team as part of the midfield trio, though, with the creative Dane having once again been instrumental for Spurs with 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

There is plenty of competition for places in the middle of the park, and Dele Alli, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Eric Dier are among the players to miss out. Georginio Wijnaldum does make the XI, though, having established himself as Liverpool's most reliable midfielder this season.

Both Liverpool and Spurs have fitness doubts surrounding their main striker going into this game, but Roberto Firmino and Harry Kane are both back in training and should be available. Kane narrowly gets the nod to lead the line in this team, having scored 23 goals across all competitions this season despite missing the end of the campaign through injury.

The England captain was still outscored by both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the Premier League, though, and both of the joint Golden Boot winners make this XI ahead of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura.
