Brendan Rodgers: 'Champions League finish would top last season for Liverpool'

Brendan Rodgers claims that a finishing in a Champions League place this term would represent a greater achievement for Liverpool than last season's second-place finish.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes that finishing inside the Premier League's top four would represent a greater achievement than last season's runners-up finish.

Rodgers's side endured a miserable start to the season and their poor form saw them sitting in the bottom half of the table.

However, the Reds have not lost since their defeat to Manchester United on December 14, and Rodgers thinks that finishing with a Champions League place would mark a better season than their second-place finish last term.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "If you look at where we were at last season with our flow and virtually one game a week really and going so close it was an incredible achievement because we weren't even backed for that.

"But to arrive in the top four this year after everything we've been through would be certainly better than last year."
