Liverpool have confirmed their squad for the 2024-25 Champions League league phase as they prepare to end their brief exile from the top tier of European football.

Following a rare campaign of Europa League action, which came to an unexpected end in the quarter-finals with defeat to Atalanta BC, the Reds are now on the hunt for their seventh Champions League/European Cup crown.

Jurgen Klopp guided Liverpool to a third-placed Premier League finish behind Manchester City and Arsenal before stepping aside for Arne Slot, who will oversee the Reds' first venture into the new-look competition.

Liverpool have been drawn to face several notable names in the league phase, including familiar foes Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, whom they met in the 2005 and 2007 finals.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Merseyside giants revealed the 24 players who had been selected to List A, which does not include a few prominent youngsters such as Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah.

Liverpool youngsters added to Champions League List B

All three youngsters are expected to earn minutes in this year's competition, but they have instead been included in List B, which can hold unlimited players who meet certain criteria and can be updated prior to every match.

"A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2003 and has, since his 15th birthday, been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year," UEFA regulations state.

"Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption."

Summer signing Federico Chiesa is among the 24 players included in List A, which also houses a selection of fledgling stars such as Trey Nyoni, Tyler Morton and Amara Nallo.

Nyoni and Nallo have only been at Liverpool since 2023 and therefore cannot be included on List B, while Morton has been loaned out twice to Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.

Who will Liverpool face in the Champions League?

In just two weeks time, Liverpool will commence their 2024-25 Champions League campaign with a daunting trip to San Siro to meet Milan on September 17, before hosting another Italian side in Bologna on October 2 in their first home game.

Three weeks later, Slot's side travel to Germany for a date with RB Leipzig on October 23, which precedes Alonso's eagerly-awaited return to Anfield with Leverkusen on November 5.

A mouthwatering November double-header then sees Real Madrid arrive at Anfield on November 27, before the Reds travel to face Girona on December 10 in their last European game of 2024.

The league phase will conclude in January, which for Liverpool involves a home clash with Lille on January 21, eight days before an away meeting against Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

The top eight teams in the 36-club league phase automatically advance to the knockout phase, while the sides ranked ninth to 24th will enter the playoffs for the final eight places.
