Daniel Sturridge's England place for next month's European Championships appears to be in doubt after he was not included in the squad for tonight's international friendly with Australia.
The Liverpool striker is struggling with a calf injury, which has kept him out of training this week.
Sturridge's absence from the squad is telling, particularly as manager Roy Hodgson has just four days to trim his 26-man squad down to 23 for the Euro 2016 finals in France.
Should the 26-year-old be omitted from the squad, it could result in 18-year-old Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford keeping his place.
Hodgson is expected to remove one striker and two midfielders from his current squad.
