Netherlands manager Frank de Boer has refused to rule out Virgil van Dijk's chances of playing at the European Championships this summer.
The Liverpool man has been out of action since injuring his ACL in October's Merseyside derby, and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is not expecting him to play again this season.
The serious nature of Van Dijk's injury means that his participation in the Euros is also up in the air, but De Boer has insisted that it is down to the player to decide whether he wants to risk this summer's tournament or not.
Speaking to ESPN, De Boer said: "I think he has to decide, it is his career. I think he has to decide, it is his career. Can It mean something for Oranje? I hope he has made giant steps in his rehabilitation."
Despite having to miss the majority of the campaign, Van Dijk is supposedly in line for a new deal at Liverpool, with his existing contract due to expire in 2023.
The former Southampton man only made five Premier League appearances in the 2020-21 campaign before sustaining his serious injury following a challenge from Jordan Pickford. body check tags ::
