Augsburg manager Stefan Reuter has revealed that his side were hoping to come up against Liverpool in the Europa League last 32.
Augsburg, who were in the third tier of German football when Liverpool were winning their fifth European Cup 10 years ago, were paired with the English giants in the first knockout phase of the competition during Monday's draw in Nyon.
The first leg will take place at the WWK Arena on February 18 before Augsburg return to Anfield for the second leg a week later.
"It's definitely an absolute highlight for our fans and all the people at Augsburg," Reuter, who was part of Germany's World Cup-winning squad in 1990, told UEFA's official website.
"During the draw my phone was vibrating constantly as so many people were asking for tickets already.
"They want to be there. This is an absolute highlight for us. For the club, it is the match everybody was dreaming of."
Augsburg had never qualified for a major European competition before this season.
