Simon Mignolet pleased with clean sheet

Simon Mignolet says that it was important for Liverpool to be defensively strong in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn Rovers.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has stated that he is pleased to have prevented an FA Cup quarter-final upset against Blackburn Rovers.

The Reds controlled most of Sunday's goalless draw at Anfield but were frustrated by their Championship opponents, and Mignolet was called into action on several occasions to deny Rovers a goal.

The Belgian says that the Reds had to remain fully focused defensively as they could not match the attacking impetus that has been evident in their recent performances.

"I think we were the better side, but didn't create enough chances to score the goals," Mignolet told Liverpool's official website. "If you can't win it, you have to make sure you don't lose it, so we're still in the hat and that's the main thing. We'll try to go to Blackburn and get the victory there to go through to the semi-finals.

"We've been dealing with set pieces very well in the last few weeks and we have to keep doing that. You know against a team like Blackburn there are always going to be one or two instances within the game where we have to be on our toes.

"Luckily we kept a clean sheet and we're still in the draw. Now we have to go to Blackburn and hopefully get the result we want there."

The replay is expected to take place at Ewood Park in the first week of April.
