Brighton & Hove Albion score three own goals as Liverpool advance through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Brighton & Hove Albion put through their own net on three occasions as they exited the FA Cup to Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

Hosts Liverpool started the tie brightly and broke the deadlock with just five minutes on the clock. Captain Steven Gerrard sent over a corner which Martin Skrtel met to score his third goal of the season.

Despite falling behind, Championship side Brighton responded positively and drew level in the 17th minute. Kazenga LuaLua collected possession 30 yards from goal before drilling a shot into bottom corner of Pepe Reina's net.

However, Brighton's first own goal of the afternoon one minute from the break allowed Liverpool to hold the lead at half-time. Brighton striker Same Vokes hacked Glen Johnson's effort off the line but the ball struck Liam Bridcutt and bounced over the line.

Andy Carroll converted a Stewart Downing cross to make it 3-1 in the 57th minute, before Bridcutt scored his second own goal when he tried to clear an effort from Gerrard after 71 minutes.

Just three minutes later Brighton completed a trio of own goals as Lewis Dunk mis-controlled a cross from Luis Suarez to send the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Peter Brezovan.

Suarez had the chance to get his name on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute, but his spot-kick was saved by Brezovan after substitute Dirk Kuyt had been fouled by Craig Nooone.

The Uruguayan did manage to find the net four minutes later though, having latched on to a flick on from Carroll to score from close range.

Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool will now take on Stoke City for a place in the semi-final.
