Liverpool have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge's return has been delayed by a new thigh problem.
The England striker was expected to be involved in Liverpool's match with Crystal Palace on Sunday after returning to training over the international break.
Sturridge initially picked up a thigh strain on Three Lions duty and then injured his calf while in recovery, but scans have shown that his latest setback is a different complaint.
Liverpool have not put a timescale on this layoff, but reports are claiming that the 25-year-old will not play again until 2015.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury.
"The player will remain unavailable for selection but will be monitored and assessed during his recovery."
Sturridge, who scored 25 goals in the Premier League last term, has not featured for the Reds since August.
