Liverpool have reportedly seen their defensive options take a further blow with Joel Matip emerging as a doubt for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Ajax.
Matip is one of only two senior recognised centre-backs available to Jurgen Klopp following the news that Virgil van Dijk could miss the remainder of the campaign with an ACL injury.
Thiago Alcantara also underwent a scan after Saturday's action-packed Merseyside derby with Everton and is subsequently expected to miss Wednesday's match, and The Times reports that the Reds could also be without Matip.
The Cameroonian was filmed at a local Liverpool hospital on Saturday having also undergone a scan on a knock he picked up, although no major issue has been detected.
Klopp must now monitor whether Matip will be ready to feature in Wednesday's trip to Amsterdam, with Fabinho set to drop back into defence alongside Joe Gomez should he fall short.
Van Dijk's injury will reportedly force Liverpool into the transfer market in January, with Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Ben White thought to be on their radar.
