Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has confirmed that he has undergone surgery on his broken right hand.
The German Under-21 international, who signed from Mainz in May, is expected to be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks.
The injury occurred when his hand collided with teammate Dejan Lovren when attempting to punch the ball clear during a pre-season defeat to Chelsea in the US last week.
Karius was expected to challenge Simon Mignolet for the number one spot for Liverpool's opening Premier League match against Arsenal at the Emirates on August 14, but it looks as though the Belgian will keep his place.
Today, the Reds' new keeper took to Twitter to display his cast and thank the fans for their support.
He tweeted: "I'm back at home after a succesful surgery! Thank you guys for all your get-well wishes!"
