Kenny Dalglish to treat final as normal game

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists that he will approach Sunday's Carling Cup final in the same way he approaches every game.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has revealed that he is not making any special plans to prepare for Sunday's Carling Cup final against Cardiff.

The final will be Liverpool's first at the new Wembley Stadium and their first cup final since 2007 but Dalglish, who is gearing up for his 28th appearance as a player or manager at the ground, insists that they should approach the game in the same way as they always do.

"A final is not really different from any other matches. Character and luck play a huge part in every game," said the Liverpool legend.

"You wouldn't say a final is just another game because it is a final at Wembley but all the other ingredients which go into getting the result are exactly the same. Whether you have experience of being somewhere before doesn't mean it is going to be helpful.

"I may have some experience, although it was a while ago, but [first-team coach] Steve Clarke has been there more recently than me [with Chelsea] so he has experience as well."

Should Liverpool win the trophy it would be their first piece of silverware since their win over West Ham United in the 2006 FA Cup final.
