Swansea City boss Garry Monk has insisted that his team should be proud of their performance during Tuesday's dramatic defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup.
The Swans were minutes away from booking their place in the fifth round of the competition, but late goals from Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren saw Liverpool earn a 2-1 win at Anfield.
Swansea were forced to end the game with 10 men after Federico Fernandez was shown a red card for a challenge on Philippe Coutinho.
"With a couple of minutes to go, we should have seen it out. We should have defended better and come away with the win," Monk told BBC Sport. "But we put on a performance, especially the second half, that we can be proud of."
Swansea return to Premier League duties on Saturday when they face Everton at Goodison Park.
