Liverpool recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers this afternoon to leave Harry Redknapp's men bottom of the table.

First-half goals from Luis Suarez (2) and Daniel Agger secured the win for Liverpool in the final Premier League match of 2012.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers missed the game through illness, but the Reds moved above his former club Swansea City in the league with the win.

Was the result fair?

Most certainly. Liverpool began the match well and were thoroughly deserving of a three-goal lead after just half an hour. QPR fought back a bit in the second half, but never really looked like troubling Jose Reina in the Liverpool goal and, in the end, it was comfortable for the Reds.

QPR's performance

Woeful. One thing is for sure, if they play like that for the rest of this season then they won't be in the Premier League at the start of the next one. Their first-half display was particularly dreadful and, while their second half performance was an improved one, the damage had already been done and they never looked capable of undoing it.

Liverpool's performance

Much improved from their defeat to Stoke City. They played very well in the first half, but their dominance was probably more down to QPR's sorry performance than their own brilliance. Once they had the three-goal lead they held on to it well and never looked likely to relinquish it. Manager Brendan Rodgers will be striving for consistency to try to reproduce this performance every week.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Luis Suarez: There was only ever one man who would win this today. Suarez was his usual tireless self as he terrorised Clint Hill in particular. The first goal showed his dribbling skills at their best, while his second was a classic striker's finish. The Uruguayan was brilliant throughout and QPR's defence will be thankful that they don't have to face him every week!

Gaffe of the match

It's tempting to give this to QPR's entire first-half performance, it was that bad. However, the single moment that problem summed it up the most was Clint Hill's defending for Suarez's opener. The centre-back turned his back on the ball and made it all too easy for the Uruguayan to take it past him.

Referee performance

Anthony Taylor had a quiet but good match. He allowed play to flow on a number of occasions when other refs may have blown for a soft foul, and correctly handed out a yellow for diving. There were no big decisions to make, but those he did have to make he got right.

What next?

QPR: An uphill battle for Premier League survival. Things don't get any easier for QPR in the immediate future as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on January 2.

Liverpool: Liverpool kick off 2013 with a match against Sunderland on Wednesday before a trip to take on Mansfield in the FA Cup Third Round.
