A statement on Liverpool's official website has confirmed that Daniel Agger will miss the remainder of the season with a back injury.
The Dane, who has made 39 appearances for the club this season, will undergo a series of pro-active treatments to strengthen the condition of his back.
"The club's medical team and associated specialists have decided to undertake a series of elective injections to enhance the stability of the defender's back," said the statement.
"Undergoing the treatment means he will miss the remaining fixtures against Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.
"Liverpool believe this pro-active action and planned rehabilitation programme will have long-term benefits for the 28-year-old's career for both club and country."
Agger has been linked with a move away from Anfield at the end of the season.
