West Bromwich Albion striker Victor Anichebe has revealed that he was instructed to score in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool this afternoon by a former Everton teammate.
The 25-year-old came off the bench to rescue a point for the Baggies this afternoon, cancelling out Daniel Sturridge's first-half effort.
Consequently, the Reds hold just a two-point lead over the Toffees in the race for Champions League qualification, and Anichebe - who spent seven years at Goodison Park - admits that he is happy to dent their European ambitions for his old club.
He told reporters: "It's always nice to score and I was itching to get on. I had a text from one of the Everton players to say do us a favour against Liverpool."
The strike was Anichebe's second of the season.
