Ian Ayre: 'Jurgen Klopp to decide on backroom staff'

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre reveals that Jurgen Klopp will make the call on whether any former Anfield players join his backroom staff.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has revealed that there are currently no plans for a former Anfield player to join the club's coaching staff after the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

It has been suggested that Klopp, who has signed a three-year deal at Anfield, may look to bring in a Liverpool legend to add some Premier League experience to his coaching staff after former Borussia Dortmund associates Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz also joined him at the club.

Jamie Carragher is one name that has been linked, while Robbie Fowler has also stated his availability, but Ayre has indicated that Klopp will assess the situation before making any further decisions.

Ayre told reporters: "Those decisions will be made by Jurgen, but I think for today, and in the near future, it's about what we have and what Jurgen has to work with, and it will be up to him to assess the situation.

"As it always the case, there were some changes yesterday, but we are moving forward and as of yet, there are no plans other than for Jurgen to get together with his staff this afternoon and take it from there."

Klopp has nine days to prepare for his first fixture in charge, which will be against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on October 17.
