Emre Can: 'Liverpool should have defeated Manchester United'

Midfielder Emre Can says that Liverpool should have found a way to beat Manchester United in their Premier League fixture on Saturday.

Midfielder Emre Can has said that it was "the same story" for Liverpool as the Merseyside giants recorded a goalless draw with Manchester United on Saturday.

Can was one player guilty of squandering a clear-cut chance in the game at Anfield as Liverpool - not for the first time this season - failed to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

The German international has claimed that he and his teammates did enough to win the game, but backed improvements to be made for the Champions League qualifier with Maribor.

The 23-year-old is quoted by SFR Sport as saying: "We have to win that game because we dominated for 90 minutes. I think we had good chances and United had one shot on target with [Romelu] Lukaku.

"It's the same story like before the international break but we have to go again on Tuesday because I think it's just a small, small step and then we will come in the right direction again.

"It's too early [to make judgements], nothing is over yet and we have to believe in ourselves. We have to win the next game."

Liverpool currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
