Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that Roberto Martinez will get his full backing if the Spaniard is announced as the Merseyside club's new manager.
Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan confirmed today that the 38-year-old Latics boss has been offered the Reds' managerial vacancy and is due to hold further talks with the club's American owners on Tuesday.
"We'll have to wait and see," said Gerrard. "It's news for me. I am aware Roberto Martinez has been speaking to the club. If he is the manager, he has my support."
Whelan also claimed that Martinez has informed Liverpool owner John W Henry that he wants "full control" of the team.
