Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has heaped praise upon his teammates after their 2-1 win over local rivals Everton in the FA Cup semi-final this afternoon.
The Reds came from a goal down to progress to their second domestic cup final of the season courtesy of a late Andy Carroll header, and Gerrard believes that it is no more than the side and Carroll himself deserve.
"[Carroll] doesn't hide and he takes criticism on the chin. That's what we bought him for, to score big goals, and he's delivered today," said the Liverpool midfielder.
"We were superb in the second half. We showed superb character. Certain players have had criticism this week but they've stood up today.
"It's superb to be in the final. It's great to deliver and one more step and we're there."
The FA Cup final will take place at Wembley on May 5, where Liverpool will meet the winners of tomorrow's semi-final between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
