Gerrard reveals coaching ambition

Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he plans to move into coaching when his playing days are over.

Gerrard recently celebrated two significant milestones for club and country, making his 600th appearance for Liverpool and winning his 100th England cap within the space of 10 days.

While the 32-year-old has no plans to retire from the game just yet, he plans to begin his coaching badges when he finishes his international career.

"I'm going to go into my coaching badges after my England days are over and when I've got the time. When the international breaks are on, I'll go and do my coaching badges and we'll see where it goes," Gerrard told the FA's official website.

"I've always said I'll only become a coach or a manager if I'm good enough. I don't think you go down that road because you've been a decent player. That's a mistake that a lot of footballers have made. Only go down that road if you're good enough.

"You have to try it, get your badges first and make sure you're comfortable and have your own belief in your own knowledge of the game."

Gerrard is expected to start in Liverpool's match against Wigan tomorrow as they look to move into the top half of the Premier League table.
