Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has described his side's 2012-13 Premier League campaign as "not good enough".
The Merseyside outfit, who have an illustrious history, have fallen behind in England's top flight in recent years, and their slip was even more evident when they finished 28 points off champions Manchester United last season.
"Over the last six months of the season, the performances and the form were really positive, but for this club, to fall 28 points from the top is not good enough," ESPN quotes Gerrard as saying.
"Everyone realises that, and the challenge for me and my teammates is to close that gap."
The Reds finished seventh in the table last season.
